Redesigning Grosvenor Square

  • ✹ Project: Community engagement and future visioning for central green space in London, Grosvenor Square

    ✦ Client: Grosvenor Group Ltd.

✦ Role: Visual and engagement designer, as a part of the make:good team

    ✦ Year: 2020

  • In 2020 Grosvenor launched a community engagement project to inform Grosvenor square’s re-design. Focusing on the changing role of urban green spaces in the environmental crisis, and latterly in relation to the pandemic, the project looked at making the Square an inclusive, ecologically progressive space in the heart of London.

I developed a project specific identity, re-purposing Grosvenor’s corporate branding. Channelling urban rewilding I created a visual language using photographic collage that interacted with Grosvenor’s more traditional brand assets in a playful and contemporary way.

    • Engagement materials:
I created engagement materials and co-designed workshops to engage local residents in conversations around sustainable green spaces. Through these we collected feedback and ideas that contributed to the final designs for the new Square.

    • Events and exhibitions
I was involved in the design, set up and facilitation of various engagement events across the project, including public workshops and exhibitions. Design tasks here included the creation of engagement stations, designed to spark curiosity, inform on the project and collect valuable feedback to feed into the architectural redesign.

Facilitating and supporting events, I spoke with members of the public to encourage participation, discuss the project and document opinions, ideas and feedback.

I was also involved in the physical set-up of events in inside and outdoor locations.

    • Public facing report
The Statement of Community Involvement report documented the community activities and reach. I designed the report to include numerous infographics and visualisations to help make the information digestible and accessible.
