Hi, I’m Savannah - a regenerative designer using research, imagination and play to support eco-social change

My toolkit

  • Regenerative design means design beyond sustainability. Instead of looking to improve our existing systems, regenerative design is about contributing to new, just and resilient systems. It takes into account all the stakeholders (human and not), it adopts long term thinking by considering our past, present and future, and it thinks in messy entangled systems.

My design practice draws on regenerative principles by working with transitions design approaches, futures and systems thinking, that complements strategic and rational thinking with creative and intuitive approaches.

  • If we want sustainable work to be sustainable in its own right, we must find more sensitive, joyful and playful ways of engaging with difficult wicked problems.

In my work, I hugely advocate for the role of playfulness and imagination. Not only do these practices bring joyfulness, but they also unlock creativity and action.

  • My traditional design skill-set is rooted in visual design and illustration, which I continue to use as a foundation for all my work. In regenerative work, visual design can communicate complex topics and information in clear and accessible ways. For me, good visual design is also a storyteller, that creates engagement and curiosity.

  • Whether in my research or design work, I always try to incorporate a collaborative approach. Co-design methods allow for multidisciplinarity and a reflection of diverse perspectives, whilst also building agency.
